One day Lulu was making something to eat for breakfast. There was some fruit in the kitchen. She took a banana and peeled it. Then she cut it up in small pieces. She also took some yogurt and put that in a bowl. And she put the small pieces of banana into the bowl of yogurt. Using a spoon, Lulu mixed it around in the bowl. Now the banana pieces were all covered in yogurt. Lulu took a bite and enjoyed it.

After finishing the yogurt with banana, Lulu washed the bowl and put it in the dish rack. Then Lulu went to the bookshelf to look for a book to read. She found one about celebrations. And the book described that sometimes people will make a pinata at a party. Then the phone rang and it was Sally calling. Sally asked Lulu what she was doing, and Lulu said she was reading about celebrations.

Sally said that was perfect because today was Jimmy’s birthday in the park. Lulu said they should make a pinata for Jimmy, and Sally agreed. Sally invited Lulu to come over and make it together. Lulu got ready and put on her shoes and her helmet. Then she got on her bicycle and rode to Sally’s place. When she got there Sally asked what a pinata is. Lulu explained that it’s a container made of paper, which can be different shapes.

And inside it they can put any types of treats or prizes. And the person being celebrated has their eyes covered, and they use a stick to break open the pinata. And when all the prizes fall out, everybody runs to get some. Sally said that sounded great. She went and got a stack of paper and glue. Sally asked what shape they should make the pinata. Lulu suggested that they should make a star shape.

Sally and Lulu used the paper and glue to make a star shaped container. It was as big as them. When the glue dried they needed to fill the inside with prizes. Sally said that she had lots of small bags of mini carrots. Lulu said that sounded fine. And they filled the star shaped pinata with small bags of mini carrots. Then it was time to go to Jimmy’s place for his birthday party. Lulu and Sally carried the pinata all the way to Jimmy’s home.

When they arrived there, they met some of Jimmy’s cousins and friends. Lulu and Sally said that they brought a pinata and that Jimmy could break it open. Lulu used some string and hung up the pinata from the ceiling. And Sally got a broomstick for Jimmy to use. Then they put a small towel and tied it around his eyes to cover him from seeing. Now Jimmy couldn’t see and was swinging the broomstick in the air, trying to hit the star pinata.

He missed a bunch of times. And the other kids were telling him where to turn and swing the broomstick. Then finally he hit the pinata and it burst open. The other kids shouted in excitement and picked up the prizes. But when they saw what it was they were disappointed. Somebody said it was just small bags of mini carrots. Somebody else said that it’s supposed to be candy in the pinata.

Lulu and Sally laughed and said that they didn’t have any candy before, but they could go get some now. Sally and Lulu hurried to the store. But when they were in the store, all the small bags of candy were gone. There was only a giant chocolate bar left. Lulu and Sally decided to get that giant chocolate bar. It was as big as them. Sally and Lulu carried the giant chocolate bar all the way back to Jimmy’s place.

When they got there, everybody was excited to see the chocolate bar. But how would they eat it? It was too big. Lulu had an idea. She used some string and hung up the giant chocolate bar from the ceiling. Then they told Jimmy to swing the broomstick to hit the chocolate bar and break it apart. This time Jimmy wasn’t wearing the blindfold. He swung the broomstick very fast, and it hit the chocolate bar very hard.

The giant chocolate bar was knocked across the room and banged against a wall. It broke apart into lots of little pieces. And all the kids shouted in excitement and ran and picked up all the chocolate pieces. Now they could all eat some chocolate. Then some cake was brought out, and they all sang to Jimmy and he blew out the candle.

But everybody was full from eating the giant chocolate bar. Jimmy cut up the cake and put slices into ziplock bags for everybody to take home with the mini carrots. Then Lulu and Sally said goodbye and left. Lulu went home and brought her ziplock bag of cake with her. When she arrived she shared her piece of cake with her parents.

Then Lulu and her parents ate dinner together. After dinner, Lulu drew a picture of Jimmy breaking open the pinata and mini carrots falling out. She put that drawing on the refrigerator. Then Lulu got ready for bed and brushed her teeth. And she laid down, closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.

Hello world, I am embarking on a project in which I am writing children’s stories. The main inspiration for me is my three year old niece, who lives far away.
