Lulu woke up one morning, the day after a big storm. The storm had brought a lot of wind and rain the day before. And it was noisy outside the window the day before. Lulu could hear it all night long. Now in the morning it was quiet and calm.

Lulu had breakfast, and afterwards got ready to go outside. She and her daddy were going to the grocery store to get some things. When Lulu went outside, she saw what the storm had done. All over the streets there were garbage cans that had been knocked down. Lulu saw some garbage company workers sweeping up the garbage fallen on the streets.

Further down the street there were some light poles that had been knocked down. Lulu saw some electric company workers who were fixing the broken light poles. As they kept walking down the street there were more things that happened because of the storm. There was a small tree that had fallen down on top of a parked car. Lulu saw some people cutting up the fallen tree to take it off the parked car.

When Lulu and her daddy reached the grocery store, it was dark inside. A grocery store worker said that the electricity had stopped working during the storm, and the lights were not on. But there was a box of flashlights near the entrance for shoppers to use. Lulu’s daddy picked up a flashlight and handed it to Lulu to be his helper.

He would push the shopping cart, while she shined the flashlight. Lulu turned on the flashlight and held it in her hands. She pointed it forward, so that they could see where they were walking inside the dark store. Other shoppers were also walking around with flashlights.

Lulu and her daddy walked to the cereal section. And Lulu pointed the flashlight up at the shelf to find the cereal they wanted. Her daddy saw it, and put the cereal in the shopping cart. Then they walked to the egg section. And Lulu pointed the flashlight up at the shelf to find the eggs they wanted. Her daddy saw it, and put the eggs in the shopping cart.

Then they walked to the pasta section. And Lulu pointed the flashlight up at the shelf to find the boxes of macaroni and cheese. Her daddy saw it, and put some in the shopping cart. Then they walked to the freezer section. And Lulu pointed the flashlight up at the shelf. Her daddy saw the frozen dumplings they wanted, and put some in the shopping cart.

They decided that they had enough of what they wanted. Then Lulu reminded her daddy that they needed garbage bags. She remembered this because of seeing the knocked over garbage cans outside. They also decided to buy a flashlight and some batteries in case they needed it at home.

They took the shopping cart to the cashier and bought their things. Lulu held the flashlight as her daddy put the shopping things into the grocery bags. Then they stepped outside, and Lulu returned the borrowed flashlight to the store worker.

Then they walked home with their groceries. When they got back home, Lulu helped put away the groceries. Then Lulu wanted to use the flashlight they bought. She opened it and put the batteries into the flashlight. But she needed it to be dark to use the flashlight.

Lulu went and got a book from the bookshelf. Then she got a blanket and put it over her head and sat under it. She covered herself completely with the blanket, and now it was dark under the blanket. And Lulu turned on the flashlight. Sitting there with her book and the flashlight, Lulu read until lunch, slowly slowly slowly.
